Art is Zed- My left brain is calling!
This entry is definitely off topic, but a subject very dear to my heart! As many of you know, I was an art major before I stumbled off to Pharmacy school. The two have become jumbled in my thick little head and often with happy creative consequences.
Yesterday, I was offered a treat that was well worth the years I waited for it — my favorite local artist, Aggie Zed, invited me to visit her studio and look thru her vast cabinets of unviewed works. If you are not an art collector, or inclined in that direction, I can compare it to being invited on location to watch your favorite directors and actors make a movie and then hanging around to chat and have a beer.
Aggie and share strange and amusing coindences in our lives. We have roosters who could be identical twins. We’ve lived in the same cities. We share a similar sense of humor. Her sister Julia’s birthday is the day after mine. We joke that she often channels my life through her paintings.
Her work is poignant and funny and dreamlike. It takes drool pokes at the real world in a covert kind of way.
I was honored during my visit to be able to look through her morning sketchbooks. The work there is even more amazing than the paintings. Her drawing skills are immaculate and the stories in these drawings extends from her sleeping dreams to her waking ones. She sits in bed with coffee and draws to face the day.
I’m driven to help her with her website to try and bring more of this incredible work to light. Watch her website http://www.aggiezed.com. There may be wonderful things soon appearing there!
First Skin Free Skincare Blog for 2009
Well, I’m only a week late to start my New Year’s Resolution of blogging more often. I’ve been in one of those mid-winter Holiday funks that must be some sort of post- prandial response considering all the gorging that ensues between Nov 25 and Dec 25 each year.
I think it takes about a week for me to submit to the idea that 1) I have gained weight and 2) I must actively do something to get rid of it.
One of the good things I did this past holiday was to offer to walk dogs at our local No-Kill SPCA shelter. I had no idea how long it took for several people to give 40 healthy dogs a minimal walk. I also realized how many of these poor pups don;t have the social skills to encourage their adoptions. No matter how cute a young dog might be, who’s going to take them home if they can’t walk on a lease properly or continuously jump up on you or your kids. I think dog walking may become an answer to my overindulgence.
How’s is everybody’s skin holding up this winter? You know I think our Skin Free Sugar Scrub combined with our Skin Free Liquid Soap used on a regular basis has got to be a major answer for dry, rough, cracked skin. Check out our products page for the Spa Scrub Power Pak http://skinfree.net/index.php/natural-skin-care-products/ Buy one and get 15% off the regular price just for mentioning the title of this blog.
WE TV Home Shopping Experience
As many times as I have presented information about my natural skincare products to various groups of store managers, owners, retailers, doctors, and other healthcare practitioners, you would think that being on camera to do the presentation wouldn’t make a difference. WRONG!!! I was so terrified that I couldn’t even remember what I had said. Well, take a look at this segment and see what you think. (Did they have to film me from my bad side?)Just kidding! I had a blast with Christina, Shawn, Tara, and all the other great folks who took care of me at IPN in their Ft. Lauderdale

New Skin Free Products for Blemish Prone Skin
Skin Free clients have been asking for natural products to use for acne and blemish prone skin since we started the line. Finally, we are able to announce that we will be adding three new products specifically for acne and blemish prone skin.
First of all, we have a very specially formulated Skin Free Niaouli Scrub for Blemish Prone Skin which is 98% natural! Most scrubs available in the market are made from gels that contain lots of chemicals. We have taken our Sugar Scrub concept and added our all natural Liquid Soap, very fine cosmetic grade pumice, and healing Organic Niaouli essential oil to make a powerful and effective scrub that will remove excess oil, minimize pores, and remove dead skin cells. Niaouli essential oil reduces bacterial growth on the skin to help prevent new outbreaks.
The end result of using this great product is a rejuvenated, glowing skin with fewer problem areas.
I can’t tell you how amazing it makes your skin feel! Having just a touch of soothing Organic Extra Virgin Olive oil and Macadamia Nut oil in this formula allows your skin to be moisturized while you clean out overworked pores. One of the problems of stripping away all oils from your skin, is that you over-stimulate the natural oil producing cycle of your skin. I can’t stress enough how important it is to continue to moisturize your skin while you are fighting blemishes. You want to keep your skin’s oil cycle balanced to promote healthy skin, prevent wrinkles, and not cause too much oil to be generated. Clogged pores are caused by too much oil, which is oxidized at the skin’s surface and hardens. Add this to trapped bacteria and you have a blemish. The trick is to keep pores clear of excess oils and free from infection.
This brings us to the next new product: Skin Free Lite Moisture for Blemish Prone Skin. We recommend using our Skin Free Extra Moisturizing Soap Bar or Skin Free Extra Moisturizing Liquid Soap for daily cleansing. If your skin feels too dry, try our Skin Free Lite Moisture for Blemish Prone Skin to add a bare minimum dose of soothing Organic Extra Virgin Olive oil and hypoallergenic Macadamia Nut oil to balance your natural oil production without feeling greasy or shiny.
The final member in our blemish treatment group is our Skin Free Green Clay Mask for Blemish Prone Skin . This versatile product can be used occasionally as a complete mask to clean out pores on any area of your body that has breakouts. It is enriched with Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil and hypoallergenic Macadamia Nut oil and our favorite Organic Niaouli essential oil to balance your skin’s moisture cycle and help prevent bacterial growth. If you have a break-out area that you would like to tame quickly, you can apply Skin Free Green Clay Mask for Blemish Prone Skin locally at bedtime to help dry blemishes overnight.
This dynamic trio of products for blemish prone skin will also be available as a group, so you can use all three in you skin maintenance program at a discounted price! Keep watching the website. They will be available soon after the 4th. Have a great Holiday!! Julie
Blog will be moving to the website soon
In case any of you have been to the website recently, I’m sure that you have noticed a much more sophisticated look and easier navigation. My step-son, Jeremy, did all of that work for me. I think it looks really awesome. If you have any comments or suggestions, please email me julieh@ceva.net.
This will be my last blog entry at this web address. Jeremy is moving the blog onto the site, so hopefully, more folks will begin reading it.
Hope to hear from you soon. Julie
Extra Moisturizing Liquid Soap Now Available on skinfree.net
I promised many of you that I would work on developing a 100% natural liquid soap. It’s now available on skinfree.net. I wanted a very gentle soap that could be used for people that are recovering from chemo or radiation therapy. It’s also great for babies or people with really dry skin.
Some manufacturer’s of natural liquid soaps do not add any extra fats to the mix, so they tend to be drying. We added extra shea butter and chose oils that would give you a nice rich lather as well.
The soap appears to be thin at first, but once you pour a small amount on a dampened washcloth or bath puff you will be surprised at how concentrated it is.
Dani Glaser, who has reviewed most of our products for us online, told us that she combined the Liquid Soap with her Sugar Scrub and got great results. Could be the start of a new formulation!
We just had our local Relay for Life, which always makes me think about my mom. My mother was undoubtedly the greatest influence in my life. She taught me a lot about being a strong woman, an independent thinker, and a kind person. When she graduated from Pharmacy School in 1956, there were only 5 women in her class. My class had a 51% majority of females.
Mom never got to see me graduate. She died during spring break of my senior year. That was a very long time ago, but she is still influencing my life, my choice of careers, and the need I have to help others.
I never really got to thank my mother for all that she taught me. To make up for that, I’m dedicating my new Liquid Soap to her. $1 from each sale of the Liquid Soap will go to the Susan G. Koman fund for breast cancer research. Thanks, Mom.
Whoopi Goldberg Loves Skin Free Skin Care!!!
I got a very exciting call and email from one of the producers of “The View” on ABC. She told me that Whoopi Goldberg was crazy about Skin Free Skin Care and wanted to share the products on the show.
Early in February, I had sent out gift bags to my favorite talk show hosts and beauty editors. Apparently, they were a big hit with Whoopi.
The producer wanted to know if we would provide products to be given out to the studio audience. But, of course!!!! What were Whoopi’s picks?
She asked for the Extra Moisturizing Soap and Shampoo Bar and the Sweet and Smooth Sugar Scrub. Not a bad selection, right?
Now I just have to wait until the producers pick a date. You’ll be the first to know!
Skin Free Products Now on drugstore.com
Skin Free Skin Care products are now available on drugstore.com. drugstore.com offers the same free shipping policy on orders of $25.00 or more that we now offer on skinfree.net.
With gasoline prices skyrocketing, I think it’s a great time for everyone to shop online. Security with your credit card information is safer than it has ever been. Most online stores will accept call-in orders (we do at our offices).
Partnering with online drug and department stores gives our customers the opportunity to shop for more items and not have to suffer expensive S&H charges, gasoline bills, or the sweltering heat.
If you have elderly friends who aren’t able to use the Internet, it would be very kind to help them here. You could either teach them about online shopping or do the shopping for them. This goes for friends and family who are ill, too.
I hope everyone goes over to drugstore.com and does some shopping, especially if you throw some Skin Free products in your cart. drugstore.com also partners with Rite Aide Pharmacies and GNC stores. Check it out!
